what is disk partitioning in linux.

Partitioning is an electronic process of dividing Physical Hard disk space into group of drives / volumes.

There are 3 types of partitions:

Primary Partitions: It is required to install the Operating system. We can create up to 4 Primary Partitions.

Extended Partition: Extended Partition is the space for creating logical partitions.

No drive letter assigned for Extended Partitions, we can create only one extended partition.

Logical Partition: Logical Partitions can be created from Extended Partitions space.

*We can create up to 63 logical partitions in Red Hat Linux operating system.
